Not sure if you guys have heard any of the latest Miley Cyrus news, but a lot of them are comparing Miley’s racy new music video and album art for her latest single, to Britney’s steamy videos. The articles claim that Miley, like Britney, started out as a Disney star but as she is aging is turning to a more sexy side, being more provocative in her videos, being more like Spears. Although Miley may be a fan of Britney’s, and wants to be like her…. I don’t like how the media is making Britney seem like a bad person for making the younger generation want to be like her.

In the late 90’s a slew of young female stars emerged, Britney being one of them, in a time where “boys” seemed to rule the airwaves, singers like Christina Aguilera, Mandy Moore and Jessica Simpson each had something to bring to the table. Christina had a voice like no other, Jessica was the spiritual girl next door, Mandy was as sweet as candy… but then there was Britney. Britney Spears was just 17 when she showed the world that girls can play the game just as well. Although Britney has caught a lot of flack for her sexy videos, lip syncing on stage and for not writing her own material, Britney has become one of the most influential females in music history.

New decade brings new acts, just like the late 90’s boys are at it again, with the Jonas Brothers, Justin Bieber and Jay Sean all topping the charts, it makes it a little hard for a young girl to make her mark. The young girls in the world always want an act to look up to, as well as be entertained, and it seems as though Miley Cyrus is that new model. Miley, like Britney in certain ways, is a triple threat. She can sing (which is up for debate), she has her own hit tv show and now she has her own line of clothing, partnered with Max Azra, which is exclusively sold at walmart in the juniors section.

So Yes, Miley is in some ways like Britney, but at the same times is way off. Miley’s music is more pop-rock styled, with a disney touch. When Britney first decided to strip down and show some skin she was compared to Madonna for doing so, each new artist is obviously going to be influenced by another from a time before, but each brings something new. So Please people, stop giving Britney shit for “influencing” the younger crowd, if Miley wants to dance around in a bikini top, let her. The girl is 17, she’s cute, and as they always say…. sex sells.

Britney and Miley are both southern gals…. but that’s about all they have in common.
